Evergreen is a congregation with a long history and rich cultural roots. From our humble beginnings in 1925 by the Los Angeles Baptist City Mission Society to reach Japanese immigrants in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of East LA, to our current involvement in the broader Asian American faith community, our church has experienced over 90 years of God’s faithfulness.

Through fire, moving neighborhoods, name-changes, a congregational hive, and even the mass incarceration of our church in World War II, God continues to graciously invite us forward in our pursuit of Jesus Christ and His Kingdom come.
